Passion Pit, who hail from Boston in the US, are the brainchild of Michael Angelakos. Angelakos' critical acclaim started after the release of the 'Chunk Of Change EP' which he wrote and recorded as a belated valentine's gift for his girlfriend.

This is a solid record however nothing special. If you really like electronic indie rock then pick it up you will most likely like it. If you are not big on it then you can probably pass. This band is a little overhyped like other new indie electronic bands (dirty projectors, st vincent, anyone?). But again solid record if you like the genre.
The highlights of the record are IMO: Moth's Wing, The Reeling, To Kingdom Come, and Make Light in that order. So if you have the means to preview then check those out. If you do not like those than forget about it :)

I remember when MGMT's cd came out and while I like their two popular tracks, "Time to Pretend" and "Kids" the rest of their stuff just didnt do it for me. Then by surprise, along comes Passion Pit. I first heard and we all first heard them when that awesome some on the Sprint Palm Pixi commercial came out months ago, that turned out to be "Sleepyhead". I then found their myspace page and listened to their whole album "Manners". What an awesome ablum. It's rare these days to listen to a cd that every track, every track is good in their own right. That's what you get here. While Passion Pit does dip into nostalgia of the 80's, with tons of Synth and electro beats, they have found a voice all their own, and I think it's in part to the vocals/voice of their singer. It's high pitched, but it somehow works. They just stand out in my opinion on the indie electronic scene, which is where you'll most likely find them, but they clearly can become a hit with many music listeners from many backgrounds. I like any band that blends different styles but somehow makes it their own....and clearly that's Passion Pit.
Standout tracks:
Sleepyhead
Til Kingdom Come
The Reeling
Then again...like I said, they're all good tracks. Listen and enjoy and bounce to the beat.

You can't help but like these batch of tunes on first listen. Reminds me a bit of Kaiser Chiefs and White Tie Affair. The electronica matches the pleasant, non-abrasive vocals. There are some children-crowd vocals in the background of some songs, and surprisingly this was not annoying like it could be. These are not Top 40 type songs so enjoy them without having to share them with the stupid mass market.
